Now 72, she has been an LGBTQ and Black civil rights organizer for over 50 years. ▪ Mandy Carter, a co-founder of Southerners on New Ground, helped organize the Triangle Lesbian and Gay Pride March in 1986, one of the earliest official marches in the state. He’s now an archivist at the University of Maryland. His paper covered the efforts to recall Durham mayor Wib Gulley, in 1986, for signing a proclamation in support of gay rights. ▪ Jim Baxter, 67, was the publisher of the statewide, gay community newspaper, The Front Page. ▪ Allan Troxler, a 74-year-old artist and writer, designed fliers, posters and buttons for the “Our Day Out” march.
